Drone shots aren’t right for every property.
It is important to carefully consider what services will most benefit your listing. What are some considerations when deciding whether or not to have drone photos taken?
At The Home
Features of the home itself can make drone photography less helpful. For example, if the roof is quite dirty or needs to be replaced, it may not be a good idea to photograph the house from an area where it will be prominently featured. Additional considerations on the property itself are things like tree cover (will you even be able to see the home?), the state of the landscaping or lot (is it clean, neat, and appealing?), etc.
Surrounding Your Listing
The first consideration with whether drone photography is even an option is the airspace. Closely regulated by the FAA, the airspace around the home must be open to commercial drone use in order for aerial photography to be considered. Check this website for more information.
After determining that it is legally permissible, there are other factors to consider beyond the lot lines of your listing. What do the neighboring homes and their yards look like? Is there a nearby feature that may not be appealing to buyers (a landfill or highway, for example)? Looking at some satellite images from Google Maps will likely be enough to quickly determine this.
