The FAA is decreasing restrictions on some aspects of drone use.
Drone photos are a great way to show your listing’s surroundings and where it sits in relation to points of interest. As reported in this article by NAR, the FAA is changing some rules about drone use that will have a direct impact on their use in real estate marketing.
What’s Changing?
NAR reports that there are several major changes to the laws governing drone use. For example, the new law will allow for the use of drones at night. Additionally, there will be provisions added for regulated use of drones over vehicles and people.
In order to help ensure safe use under these and other circumstances, NAR reports that the FAA will require drones to broadcast information about the drone and the operator. This will function to allow regulators and law enforcement to identify users in a similar way to aircraft transponders.
What Will It Allow?
While it is easy to imagine how many of these changes will have impacts for things such as drone-based delivery, there are also very real implications for real estate marketing.
The allowance of use over an increased area (over people and vehicles) will allow for more homes (urban homes, for example) to be eligible for legal drone photography. Permitting drone use at night will allow for twilight aerial photography or video of listings, which will be exciting to see.
NAR reports that many of these new regulations will not go into effect until 2023, but we will be sure to include them in our available services as it becomes legal to do so.
